A la sortie de son premier album, Baby One More Time, on la présentait comme le futur phénomène musical. A à peine 18 ans, elle avait su créer un nouveau style pop pour adolescent(e)s et avait de nombreux émules comme Christina Aguilera ou Lorie en France. Musicalement pas exceptionnelle, elle a su s'attirer un public grâce à son dynamisme, contagieux, et essence même de ses interprétations. En disant ceci, je ne parle que de ce que je connais, c'est à dire le premier album. Je l'ai acheté à un âge où je me cherchais et j'avais ainsi répondu au bourrage de crâne qu'il y avait à la radio à cette époque (mais j'aimais bien quand même, surtout la chanson Born To Make You Happy). J'ai découvert il y a peu tout ce qu'il lui était arrivé depuis cette fameuse année où le succès lui tendait les bras et je me suis dit que tout pouvait très vite changer...
