The Animals

The Animals est un groupe de rock britannique fondé en 1962. Adepte du rythm'n'blues américain, le leader du groupe, Eric Burdon, pousse à ce que le groupe reprenne les tubes des grands bluesmen américains et une ballade folk américaine, House of the rising sun. Cette chanson, dont on ne connaît pas l'auteur puisqu'il s'agit d'un tube traditionnel, a également été interprétée par des artistes comme Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, Tracy Chapman, Joan Baez... Mais c'est la version de The Animals qui l'a rendu véritablement populaire, sublimée par la voix d'Eric Burdon et par les nappes de claviers d'Alan Price: le résultat est une chanson teintée d'un son caractéristique des années 1960. Un succès qui leur a permis d'être au même niveau que les Stones et les Beatles dans les charts au milieu des années 1960, avant leur séparation en 1967.
